Throughout your lifetime, the temptation to commit unholy acts is something that is always going to be there. Even Lord Jesus was tempted by the devil in the desert when he was fasting for 40 days and 40 nights. In Matthew 4:1-11, the devil approached Jesus and said “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread”. Throughout the time he was tempted, Jesus was strong and resisted the evil attacks. We need to respond to temptation like Jesus did during his time on Earth.

Prayer

Our best tactic to use when temptation arises is prayer. Through the power of prayer, we can resist the devil and stay on track with what God wants for us in life. The Lord is always there to listen to our prayers and answer them. Along with prayer, it is important to quote scripture as well. An amazing verse in the Bible to memorize and use when tempted is 1 Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out, so you can stand up under it.” Prayer and quoting scripture can turn the tide quickly for us. Pray and recite that verse the next time you are tempted.

Remember You Are A Child of God

When we are tempted as Christians, we need to pray and then also remember who we are. We are children of the Lord Almighty and He chose us to be His. That is a powerful thing. The Creator of the Universe and the Heavens chose us to be His children. That is what we need to remember when we are tempted to do wicked acts. God granted us eternal life and He died for our sins. He gave us hope and the power to turn away from evil. That is what we must remember when we are tempted.

Pay Attention

As Christians, we must be alert and recognize when temptation is lurking. If you have a problem with giving into a certain sin, you need to start with prayer and change your daily habits. We must drop whatever bad things we are doing in life and run towards Lord Jesus. We have to pay attention to our surroundings. That might mean letting go of ungodly friends, changing your diet or quitting smoking and drinking. Whatever the sin is, just remember that the Lord Almighty isn’t playing around, and neither should we. The Devil wants to wreck you, and he will strike when you are at your weakest. 1 Peter 5:8 reads “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour”.
